Panaji: Hours after submitting before the High Court that he would cooperate with the police, former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar appeared before the investigating officer at Bicholim police station on Thursday.
Velingkar has moved for an anticipatory bail application before the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court, which came up for hearing on Thursday morning.
The lawyer representing Velingkar told the single bench comprising Justice B.P. Deshpande that he would cooperate with the police. The public prosecutor representing the state had said that they would not arrest Velingkar if he cooperated with the police.
Velingkar is booked for hurting religious sentiments by Bicholim police following his statement on the patron saint of Goa, St. Francis Xavier.
The former RSS Goa chief went to Bicholim police station on Thursday and gave his statement to the investigating officer. A small group of Velingkar’s supporters was present at the police station when he arrived at around 4 PM.
Superintendent of Police (North) Akshat Kaushal was personally present at the police station when Velingkar appeared before the IO.
The court has fixed the matter of his anticipatory bail for Monday.
