Former Goa CM Digambar Kamat removed from the post of Permanent invitee on CWC

Panaji: In a stern action, All India Congress Committee on Sunday removed former Goa Chief minister Digambar Kamat from the post of permanent invitee to Congress Working Committee with immediate effect.

The order removing Kamat from the coveted post was issued by AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal. “Hon’ble Congress President has removed Shri Digambar Kamat from his current position as Permanent Invitee to Congress Working Committee with immediate effect,” reads the order issued on Sunday.

The former chief minister is under fire for alleged rebellion within the party. He along with another MLA Michael Lobo has been accused by Congress Party’s Goa unit of trying to split Congress Legislature Party.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar has already filed Disqualification petition against Kamat and Lobo before Speaker of Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar.

Meanwhile, a group of Goa Congress MLAs who were flown out of Goa on the weekend to avoid any split returned to the state on Sunday ahead of Presidential poll.

A group of five MLAs were taken to Chennai by Congress party from Goa after the Goa Legislative Assembly Session on Friday. Congress has eleven MLAs in Goa Legislative Assembly.

Patkar said that the group of MLAs have returned and they will b e participating in the Presidential poll scheduled on Monday. He said that the Congress has spoken to Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party, who will be supporting candidature of Yashwant Sinha.

When contacted, Deputy Leader of Opposition Sankalp Amonkar, who was amongst the five MLAs that had left the state, said that they are back in Goa. “I am sure, all the eleven MLAs of Congress will vote for Yashwant Sinha,” he stated.
