The newly elected Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council Lyndon Pereira has said that no officer would be allowed to delay the processing of files and there will be zero tolerance towards corruption. Www.goanewshub.com caught up with him for his first ever interview.
- From fatorda first you will have to think Margao first. Is it a challenge.
We have a panel which has the blessings of both the Fatorda M.L.A Mr. Vijaybab Sardessai and the Margao M.L.A Shri Digambar bab Kamat. Both are visionary leaders who have worked at grassroots levels and both have with their work won the hearts of their respective voters. Working under the guidance of both these leaders, we can take both Fatorda and Margao forward.
- The council is of goa forward and congress. In future if both parties don’t go along well. Will it affect your stability.
At present my focus is development and to make Margao Municipality a people friendly municipality. I can promise you development, transparency and accountability. If I fulfill my promise, stability will automatically follow as I am sure that no councilor would like to destabilize a Municipality which has given good governance to the people. My leader Mr. Vijay Sardesai always believes in performance and he has shown his performance in Fatorda by ensuring visible development. Our development shall ensure us stability.
- Is this chair taken on rotation basis.
It is for the councilors to decide. In a democratic setup its the majority which decides. I can only say that during my term and as long as I am occupying this chair, I will ensure that I do justice to my post.
- What is your forward plan for Margao?
My focus shall be to create a people friendly Municipality. I am working on a road map to ensure that all files are disposed in a time bound manner with zero tolerance to corruption. Officers who keep the file pending without any reason shall be taken to task and made accountable. I propose to have a peoples meet once every fifteen days where citizens whose files are pending can come and directly interact with me and the Chief Officer and we shall together ensure that all pending files are instantly cleared. A grievance committee shall be set up to promptly deal with all public grievances. I am also working on using technology so that during covid times, we can receive and clear files even online.
- No discipline in municipality. You agree. How will you tackle it.
Today, Municipality is having a disciplined Chief Officer in Mr. Agnelo Fernandes. I believe that if the leader is disciplined, automatically the staff will be disciplined. In consultation with the Chief Officer, I will work on a plan to ensure that no officer keeps any file pending on his table. No officer should expect to make any money from any file. I am honest and I have not joined politics to make any money. Honesty and my dedication for work is the reason why people have successively voted for me. I will ensure absolute transparency and accountability. If any file is kept pending without any reason, the aggrieved person can directly approach me and I shall make sure that the grievance is resolved.
- Which are the positive suggestions that you will take from bjp panel’s manifesto.
Why only BJP? I will take suggestions from all manifestos which can fulfill my leader Mr. Vijay Sardesai’s vision of taking Margao Forward. Whoever wants to take Margao forward can back us and be part of my leaders Margao Forward Vision.
