Panaji: In two separate incidents reported at Candolim and Benaulim beaches late on Tuesday, five Russian women were rescued from drowning, the lifeguarding agency said.

The spokesman of Drishti Marine, a lifeguarding agency appointed by the state government, said that in two different incidents, five Russian women were rescued from drowning on Tuesday.

The spokesman said that the first incident happened at Candolim Beach in North Goa, where three Russian women, between the ages of 30 and 40 years, found themselves stuck in a rip current while they were swimming together.

The lifesaver noticed them in distress and rushed to their aid. The three women were brought back to safety with the help of a rescue board.

In yet another incident, two Russian women, a 51-year-old and a 52-year-old, were rescued by Drishti Marine lifesavers. The victims were caught and dragged further into the sea by a rip current off the beach.

The first victim was secured with a rescue tube by Farade, and the second was rescued with the help of a jetski by lifesavers, he said.

The spokesman said that Drishti Marine urges beachgoers to exercise caution, be responsible while enjoying the water this tourist season, and follow instructions from lifesavers posted on the beaches to ensure public safety.
