Five Passengers Held with Rs 8 Cr Drugs Haul at Mopa Airport

Mopa: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Goa Customs at Manohar International Airport, North Goa, has seized 23 kilograms of hydroponic weed costing approximately Rs eight crore from five persons who had arrived from Bangkok and Abu Dhabi via Muscat.

Sunil B Deshmukh, Commissioner of Customs, Goa, in a media statement released here, has said that the Air Intelligence Unit seized 23.832 kilograms of hydroponic weed (cannabis) valued at approximately Rs 8,34,12,000/- in the illicit market from five persons. Of these, two arrived from Bangkok via Muscat, and one arrived from Abu Dhabi via Muscat at Goa’s Manohar International Airport on March 25, 2026.

He said that, acting on passenger profiling, AIU officers intercepted the passengers upon their arrival and conducted a detailed examination of their baggage.

The examination led to the recovery of 23.832 kilograms of hydroponic weed (cannabis), concealed inside food packets in the passengers’ checked-in baggage. The substance tested positive for drugs using the NDPS field testing kit.

Deshmukh said that the 23.832 kg contraband was seized and the passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Further investigation is underway. The Customs Department remains steadfast in its resolve to build a Nasha Mukt Bharat, he added.
