Margao: When entire world is left locked indoors to protect themselves from COVID-19, this young lady is busy on the streets feeding stray dogs.

For Fidoll Frida J Pereira, feeding stray canines on the street is not a new thing. She has been doing it for last ten years. But what is significant is that she is rushing on the streets now a days risking her life as when they need her the most.

With the restaurants shut down temporarily and so also markets, Fidoll is taking extra efforts to ensure that no stray is left hungry. Special attention is given to puppies who are left dehydrated with no water around and scorching Sun overhead.

For people living in the areas of Nuvem, Margao, Fatorda, Colva, Majorda, Seraulim, Betalbhatim, Sanvordem, Sonsodo area, Fidoll serving stray dogs is a common site.

According to her, on an average she requires 25 to 40 kg of rice every day. And with current lockdown, the demand has gone up to 50 kgs per day.

A businesswoman by profession, Fidoll says that she has approached many people, these days, to ensure that puppies don’t die due to dehydration.

“I can’t carry such huge amount of water in my vehicle. So, I appeal people to keep containers of water near their homes. While 40 per cent people cooperate, 60 per cent don’t,” she said.

During her routine rounds, Fidoll comes across several people who like to stay away from stray dogs fearing of infection.

She takes no financial help from the government.

Fidoll dreams of having a shelter home for stray dogs, specially puppies who can be taken care. She says that she wants to start NGO with the help of like-minded people so that the shelter home can be a reality.
