MARGAO: Goa police on Thursday appealed the senior citizens in the state to be alert after two instances of conmen posing as police, fled with their golden ornaments.
Superintendent of Police (South) Tikam Singh Verma told reporters in Margao city of South Goa that two incidents were reported on July 15 in the district.
He said that one incident was reported in Vasco town while another was in Fatorda.
Verma said that the criminals have adopted a modus operandi of approaching senior citizens, mostly above 70 years of age, when they walk on the road, posing as a policemen.
“These accused who are on the bike stop senior citizens posing as a policemen and ask them to get off their gold and they help them in wrapping it in a cloth,” the SP said.
Verma said that in both the instances, when senior citizens return back their home, they find that there was no gold in the cloth.
The SP said that the gang is moving around on a black colour two-wheeler.
Verma said that police have not yet made any breakthrough in the incident. He said that the senior citizens should be alert about such incidents as police will never stop them on the road, unless something is wrong.
