Eye Camp at Tivim Rehab Centre Screens 50; Dr Shekhar Salkar Counsels Children on Prudent Mobile Use

Tivim, Jan 30: In a community outreach initiative, the Lions Club of Tivim, in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Bicholim Branch, Lions Club of Mapusa Elite, and the Ophthalmic Cell of the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Panaji, Goa, organised a free eye screening camp at the Sisters Adorers Navajyothi Rehabilitation Centre at Tivim-Madel.

The camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr Medha Salkar, State Programme Officer, and Dr Shekhar Salkar, President of the IMA Bicholim Branch. A team comprising Ophthalmic Assistant Yuvek Yuvraj Ghadi and Vibhali Mandrekar examined a total of 50 patients, including 27 children.

As part of the initiative, 17 patients were screened for glaucoma, with all found to have normal intraocular pressure. One patient was referred for a diabetic fundus examination. Seven beneficiaries were provided free spectacles by the Ophthalmic Cell of DHS, including two children and five presbyopic patients.

Addressing the gathering, Vibhali Mandrekar shared guidance on the prevention of conjunctivitis and general eye care. Dr Shekhar Salkar counselled children on the prudent use of mobile phones, highlighting the importance of limiting screen time and maintaining proper posture to safeguard the eyes, neck, and fingers from long-term strain.

The event was attended by members of the organising institutions, including Jyotsna Tilve, Adv. Deepak Tilve, Adv. Vilas Parab, Prashant Chanekar, Sharmila Chanekar, Lion Napolean DeSouza, and Lion Anil Fernandes of the Lions Club of Mapusa Elite.

Adv. Deepak Tilve, President of the Lions Club of Tivim, expressed gratitude to all medical professionals, volunteers, and partners for their contribution towards promoting eye health and community welfare.
