Panaji, January 12: At present, Hindu sisters are facing what has been described as a severe social crisis in the form of Love Jihad and forced religious conversions across the country. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Jharkhand, among 11 states in India, have already implemented Anti Love Jihad or Anti-Conversion laws. Against this backdrop, for the protection of Hindu sisters, the Ranragini wing of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate implementation of an Anti Love Jihad Law in Goa.

The Ranragini delegation included Hemshri Gadekar and Rajshri Gadekar. At the time of submitting the memorandum, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldesai and Secretary of the Gomantak Temple Federation Jayesh Thali were also present. The memorandum demanding an Anti Love Jihad Law in Goa bears the signatures of 7,000 Goan citizens.

In the memorandum, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti cited several incidents of Love Jihad that have occurred in Goa. The demands made include awarding capital punishment to those termed as Love Jihadis responsible for the murders of Hindu girls, including Sakshi, Anuradha, Shraddha and others. The memorandum further demands that the Home Department appoint an independent inquiry committee to investigate whether there is any conspiracy behind the disappearance of women and girls in the state.

It also calls for the establishment of a special police wing, on the lines of the Uttar Pradesh Government, to investigate and handle cases related to Love Jihad.

On this occasion, the memorandum was also submitted to MLAs Daji Salkar, Ulhas Tuenkar, Pravin Arlekar, Premendra Shet and Deviya Rane. Over the past few months, Ranragini has initiated public awareness campaigns through meetings with public representatives, pro-Hindutva organisations, social organisations and women self-help groups, and by organising women’s conventions to demand the enactment of an Anti Love Jihad Law in Goa.
