Mapusa: The Parish of St. Francis Xavier, Duler, celebrated Family Apostolate Sunday and the Jubilee of Families on August 31, bringing together parishioners of all ages for a day that combined spiritual reflection, practical guidance, and joyful fellowship.
The day began with a well-attended liturgy, animated by the Family Apostolate Animation Team. Through three skits, the team conveyed the Gospel’s message of seeking greatness in “being” rather than “having,” stressing love and humble service over possessions and positions.
A highlight of the event was an engaging session led by Prof. Vijay and Ulene Borges, a couple from Curtorim and members of the MFC, Margao. Drawing from their experience of raising six children, the couple shared how they balanced work and family life with discipline, role distribution, and open communication. They emphasized the importance of emotional and psychological support within families, adding that children, when heard and valued, can also become strong pillars of support for their parents.
After the session, the celebrations turned lighthearted with team and partner games, filling the parish grounds with laughter and enthusiasm. Parishioners then gathered for the cutting of a Jubilee cake and a simple community lunch, which fostered camaraderie and bonding.
Concluding the day’s events, the Family Apostolate Animation Team urged parish families to take up a “digital detox,” encouraging them to disconnect from devices and instead reconnect with loved ones through meals, outings, games, or shared activities.
Parish Priest Fr. Anthony Fernandes praised the Family Apostolate Animation Team for their efforts, noting that the well-planned program successfully wove together formation and fellowship. He said their work is a step forward in building Happy, Healthy, and Holy Families.
