Dry days in Goa on August 9, 10 and 12

Panaji: Goa government has announced ban on sale of liquor in the state for three days in August month due to the polling and counting for Panchayat election.

Under Secretary (Finance) Pranab Bhat on Friday issued notification declaring dry days in Goa on August 09, 10 and 12.

The elections for 186 panchayat bodies in Goa are scheduled on August 10, while counting is on August 12.

The notification mentions that it is necessary in the interest of public that all licenced premises for the sale of liquor shall be closed on August 09, August 10 and August 12 in the entire state of Goa on account of polling day and counting of votes for the General Elections to 186 village panchayat.

Bhat has said that however, the premises having licence for the “Bar and Restaurant” may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only and the Bar counter shall be closed and no liquor shall be allowed to be served on the above mentioned days.

“The owner of the licenced premises having “Bar and Restaurant” shall also display a board in the premises stating that no liquor will be served and that the restaurant is open for serving food only,” the notification reads.
