Panaji: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday said that Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant should come clear on the allegations about land purchase leveled against him.

Sawant has been drawing flak of the opposition after a Shiv Sena leader from neighbouring Dodmarg district of Maharashtra had claimed that the chief minister had purchased huge tracts of land in the area.

Singh, a former Congress incharge of Goa, tweeted “would CM Goa please come out clean on it?”

The Congress leader has quoted a tweet which claimed that the CM has purchased 1.18 crore square metres of the land in Dodamarg area.

Singh’s tweet comes at the backdrop of his party leader and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat yet to offer his reaction on the social media outrage over Goa CM owning huge land shown in his name in his affidavit filed at the time of filing nomination in 2017.

Earlier last week, Sawant had admitted of purchasing the land at Dodamarg claiming that he had done it in a legal way. He had contested the claims that the land purchased was huge, but had said that it was some thousand square metres.

“If I had something to hide, I would not have purchased the land in my own name,” the Chief Minister had said.
