Panaji: The crime branch today questioned Govindraj Dempo, son in law of former State chief minister Digambar Kamat in connection with the illegal mining scam.

Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Karthik Kashyap said that Dempo was questioned for two hours by the Crime Branch. “He was questioned about suspicious shell companies both in India and abroad with bank accounts linked to foreign banks,” Kashyap said.

He said that Dempo would be called again, if required during the investigation of the case.

Kamat was questioned earlier on April 30 by SIT in connection with the case.

The 64-year-old legislator, who was the state mines minister when the alleged illegalities took place between 2005 and 2012, had earlier also been questioned by the SIT set up by the Crime Branch.
