Panaji: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Monday met Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik complaining about the lack of action plan on the part of State government to control and manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kamat’s visit comes almost a week after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met the Governor over the issue, briefing him about state’s preparedness to tackle the virus.

In a media statement issued after his meeting with the Governor, Kamat claimed that there is complete fear and anxiety in the minds of the people of Goa about the spread of COVID-19 and spike in Covid Positive Cases all across the State.

“The Government of Goa has not come out with an Action Plan on control and management of the Covid Pandemic till date,” the LoP said.

“There are various instances wherein the contradictions in statements and announcements by the Ministers and Government Authorities have led to confusions in the minds of the people and chaos in various areas, more particularly the Containment Zones and other restricted areas,” he said.

Kamat said that there are also instances wherein certain local self-bodies taking decisions of lockdowns, restrictions on movement of people without the approval of the Government and against the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The former chief minister said that he has received various complaints from the Covid positive patients, their relatives, medical practitioners and others regarding mismanagement at Covid Hospital and Covid Care Centres.

“There are various photographs and videos which are circulated on the Social Media highlighting the pathetic conditions of the facilities provided to the patients by the government,” he said.
“There are concerns being raised about delay in Covid testing results. It has been brought to my notice that there are instances wherein the patients are admitted in Covid Care Centres pending their test results,” Kamat said.

“It is noticed that many of these patients later test Covid Negative. However, there are likely chances of them getting infected of the Virus during their stay at the Covid Care Centre. The government should not send any patients to the Covid Care Centres till their test results are available,” he added.
