Raia, 11th August 2025: In a significant development in the Village Panchayat of Raia, Deputy Sarpanch Manuel Rodrigues was removed from his post after losing a no-confidence motion during a special meeting of the Panchayat.
The motion, moved by six Panchayat members, was passed with 6 votes in favour and 5 against, resulting in Rodrigues’ removal from the position of Deputy Sarpanch.
The no-confidence motion was brought forward citing reasons including not taking fellow Panchayat members into confidence and not cooperating in Panchayat matters.
This decision reflects the collective will of the majority of Panchayat members who seek transparent, cooperative, and effective governance for the people of Raia. We are committed to working for the welfare and development of the village: Joaquim Fernandes, supporter of the panel that initiated the motion.
The Panchayat will now proceed with the process to elect a new Deputy Sarpanch in accordance with statutory provisions.
