Vasco: A group of armed dacoits barged into an apartment in Vasco during the early hours of Tuesday, assaulted the residents, and fled with gold ornaments and cash, police said.
Superintendent of Police (South) Tikam Singh Verma told reporters on Tuesday that the occupants of the apartment suffered injuries in the attack. He said that a manhunt has been launched to track down the accused.
As per the complaint filed with Vasco police, a group of seven people armed with iron rods broke into the apartment owned by Sagar Nayak on the seventh floor in Vasco by breaking open the window grills.
The complaint mentions that the Bihari-speaking dacoits assaulted Sagar, his wife, his daughter, and his elderly mother before tying them up and taking the keys to the locker.
The dacoits, who were wearing helmets and masks, robbed gold ornaments and cash from the locker, police said, adding that the exact amount of gold and cash taken is being examined.
Sagar, the head of the family, was brutally assaulted with iron rods by the assailants. He is currently admitted at a government-run facility at Chicalim.
