Mapusa: The court on Thursday granted seven days of police custody to Ajay Gupta, one of the owners of Birch by Romeo Lane, Arpora night club, which caught fire killing 25 people on Saturday.
Gupta, who was arrested in Delhi on Wednesday, was brought to Goa late in the evening. He was produced before the lower court in Mapusa town, 9 kms away from here, where he was granted seven days of police custody.
Rohan Desai, the lawyer representing Gupta, said that the Goa Police had asked for ten days of police custody of his client but the court granted only seven days.
He said that his client is completely cooperating with the investigating agency.
While Gupta was being taken into the police vehicle, he told reporters that he has no role to play in the mishap. I don’t know anything. I have no involvement. I was a sleeping partner and had no say in the operations of the club, he said, before being pushed into the police vehicle.
