Panaji: Goa Court on Friday acquitted all the nine accused including former chief of Goa Cricket Association Dayanand Narvekar in connection with 2001 fake ticket scam.
Margao police had charge-sheeted Narvekar along with then office bearers of Goa Cricket Association and a contractor for allegedly printing fake tickets for one-day internatinal cricket match played between India and Australia on April 06, 2001.
The case alleged that Narvekar along with GCA’s then treasurer Rama Shankar Das and Secretary Vinod Phadke allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with ticket printing contractor Chinmay Fallari for the sale of tickets by manipulating the tender for a consideration of Rs 68 lakh.
The police had charged the GCA office bearers for allegedly printing 29,000 tickets and complimentary passes in excess of the stadium capacity.
All the nine accused were charged under section 471 (forgery), 420 (Cheating), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 120-B (hatching criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code.
Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, Santan Da Silva on Friday acquitted all the accused after hearing the final arguments in the case.
