Panaji: In an unique protest against the frequent power cuts during the ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Congress workers in Goa on Thursday played traditional arati in the head office of the Electricity Department in Panaji.
The congress activists including Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Varad Mardolkar held a protest at the head office of the electricity department in the capital city. Mardolkar said that the protest was the outcome of the frequent power cuts witnessed in the State during ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
“People have been celebrating their Chaturthi festival in darkness as the power supply has been frequently cut in various villages of the state. The electricity department has failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people even on these important days,” he said.
The Congress workers were upset after majority of the electricity department officers were absent when they protested. “The officers should have been on their duty at this time when entire state is witnessing power cuts. But what we see that the officers have abandoned the office,” he said.
After failing to get audience from the officers, the Congress workers resorted to unique protest of playing traditional Arati in the Electricity Department office.
