Congress warns to hit roads if Mandrem roads not repaired

Pernem : North Goa District Congress Committee and Mandrem block Congress has served an ultimatum to the Public Works Department to protest if the mess created during laying of electrical cable is not cleared and if roads are not repaired.

Narayan Redkar, President of Mandrem Block Congress Committee said that due to the ongoing work of digging of roads, people are facing problems.

“we have submitted a memorandum to the PWD office and have requested them to repair roads. If they fail to do it, then we will hit the roads,” he said.

“Problems have arose due to digging of roads while laying electrical cables. Contractor is not bothered and has not repaired roads. People are meeting with accidents,” Redkar said.

He said that PWD failed to repair the road on the given deadline, which was on June 9. “Officials have given us assurance that they will repair roads. We will wait and if they fail then we will protest,” he said.

Babi Bagkar said that Mandrem constituencies and the whole of Pernem is suffering due to the digging of roads. “it is the responsibility of PWD to get the work done,” he said.

North Goa District General Secretary Pranav Parab, Mingel Fernandes, Babuso Talkar, Gangaram Mandrekar and Ramchandra Palyekar were present.

“Due to the digging up of most of the roads by the electricity department and work not properly completed by the concerned department/contractor several accidents are reported every day. I also want to bring to your notice that the roadside gutters are choked as a result of digging and therefore when it starts raining regularly the roads will become dangerous to commute on,” Memorandum stated.

“The number of accidents and incidents happening due to incomplete work and because of loose mud on the roads is alarming,” it further said.
