Congress resolves to ban re-entry of party rebels

Panaji: Congress on Saturday resolved to ban re-entry of all 13 former party MLAs, who deserted it and joined BJP.

State congress executive committee met under its President Girish Chodankar this evening.
Speaking to reporters post meeting, Chodankar said that the committee has resolved to ban re-entry of those, who deserted the party to join BJP.
Chodankar said that a similar resolution has already been passed by North and South Goa district committees. “The resolution will be now forwarded to All India Congress committee,” he said.
Congress that emerged as single largest party during 2017 State Assembly election with 17 seats, is currently left with only 5 MLAs.
Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane was the first to quit the party in March, 2017, soon after BJP led coalition government was formed. He is currently health minister in Pramod Sawant cabinet.
Later in October 2018, Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar and Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte resigned and joined saffron party.
This year in July, 10 MLAs including former leader of Opposition Chandralant Kavlekar (Quepem), Jennifer Monserrate( Taleigao), Atanasio Monserrate(Panaji), Isidor Fernandes(Canacona),  Clafasio Dias(Cuncolim), Filipe Neri Rodrigues (Velim) Wilfred D’Sa (Nuvem), Nilkant Halankar( Thivim) Francisco Silveira ( St Andre) and Tony Fernandes (St Cruz) left the party.
