Panaji: Congress party in Goa on Friday has demanded resignation of State tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar after two tourists died near Sunburn EDM.
Two Andhra Pradesh based tourists had died after they collapsed near Sunburn festival venue at Vagatore beach village in North Goa.
Goa Congress Chief Girish Chodankar told reporters that the deaths are due to suspected drug overdose.
“The deaths have completely demolished the theory of the BJP Government led by Pramod Sawant that there is no drug trade in Goa,” he said. “The unfortunate incident has vindicated the stand of the Congress Party that the Narcotic Drug Trade in Goa is flourishing with the blessing of the Ministers, MLA’s and Office bearers of the Party with a difference,” he said.
Chodankar said that State Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar who has been defending hosting of festivals which promote drugs should resign from the post.
The Congress leader said the Police and the Medical Officers at Goa Medical College not to succumb to the pressure of the high and mighty in the BJP and try to alter and manipulate the facts regarding the cause of the death of the two tourists. “Any attempt to do so will cost the concerned officers heavily,” he said.
“The Tourism Minister had gone overboard to defend the Sunburn festival, despite warnings coming from all corners that heavy usage of Narcotic Substances is done during the festival,” he said.
“We demand that the Tourism Minister should immediately resign, failing which the Chief Minister should sack him from the Ministry,” Chodankar said.
