Panaji: The Congress party today opposed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s move to get himself appointed as the Pro-Chancellor of the Goa University (GU).
Addressing press conference, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said that congress party strongly condemn and oppose the move.
“We strongly believe that University, which is an autonomous body should be kept at distance from political interference. Government move to appoint CM to be pro-chancellor is an open attempt to politically interfere in the affairs of autonomous body,” Chodankar said.
Congress president said that it is “very painful” to see that the vice chancellor Varun Sahani, who is appointed as a protector of autonomy of the institution, himself his encouraging political interference.
