Panaji: Congress leaders who vehemently opposed the amendment to 16 B of Town and Country Planning Act are now turning to be the biggest beneficiaries.
The Town and Country Planning Board which met on Friday cleared the proposal of senior Congress leader and former minister Aleixo Sequeira.
Tonia Estate, the company owned by Sequeira, had moved a proposal for conversion before the Board.
Interestingly, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar who had opposed the amendment on the floor of the House had his land converted earlier last month.
Vrushal Estate and Development Pvt Ltd had received principal approval for change in zone from paddy field to Commercial zone for his land admeasuring 3588 sq meters at Chaudi Canacona.
Kavlekar and his wife Savitri Kavlekar are directors in the company.
