Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Saturday stated that the Congress is open to exploring an understanding with like-minded parties for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections in Goa to prevent the Opposition vote from being divided.

Speaking to reporters, Alemao said that while the Congress has a presence in all 40 Assembly constituencies, the party’s priority is safeguarding Goa’s interests.

“We are here to make sure that we don’t divide ourselves. We have presence in all the 40 constituencies. But we will take the call to ensure that we will not divide the Opposition. We want Goa to be saved,” he said.

Alemao further alleged that the BJP may attempt to split the Opposition ahead of the polls. “People are watching us. Our agenda is not to divide ourselves. Whatever is in the interest of the party, the party will take a call,” he added.

Goa has 50 Zilla Panchayat constituencies, with elections scheduled later this year.
