Panaji: The opposition parties including the Congress, Goa Forward Party, and Revolutionary Goans Party on Sunday hinted at aligning together for the 2027 Goa Assembly election.
In a function held on the eve of Diwali at Fatorda in South Goa, the party leaders including Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao (Congress), Altone D’Costa (Congress MLA), Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward Party chief), and Manoj Parab (Revolutionary Goans Party chief) said that the opposition parties should come together to fight back the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2027 elections.
The event was organised by Vijai Sardesai mentored organisation at Fatorda ground which was attended by thousands of people.
“The winning formula is simple. It is 34 per cent versus 66 per cent,” LoP Yuri Alemao said, referring to the voting pattern of the 2022 elections where the opposition combined had secured more votes.
Alemao said that the opposition parties which unite together on the floor of the House should also do so outside it.
Referring to the decision by AAP not to join hands with the Congress for a pre-poll alliance in Goa, Alemao said that those party officials who do not understand the importance of opposition unity are dividing the votes.
“This is a message for those who want to do paap. If your party is trying to do paap, then leave the party,” he said, adding that no political party can contest all the 40 assembly seats on its own.
Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai said that one can celebrate Diwali only after slaying Narakasur. He was referring to the mythological demon who is slain before celebrating Diwali in Goa.
“To secure the future of our next generation, we have to slay Narakasur,” he said.
Speaking about the recent attack on social activist Rama Kankonkar, Sardesai said that the kind of attack that happened on a Scheduled Tribe person indicates that there is no respect for Goans.
“I have already said during my birthday that I am ready for any kind of sacrifice. Why are we silent in Goa?” he said.
The GFP President said that the political parties cannot remain silent against the misrule of the BJP. He said that Goa requires a revolution to save the state from a second colonisation.
“There will be a time when they will ask us to make Hindi Goa’s official language,” he said.
Sardesai admitted that the opposition parties had a lot of political differences but now have to come together for the betterment of Goa, he said.
Revolutionary Goans Party President Manoj Parab said that no one thought that all these parties would be sharing the platform together.“The time has come for us to be together and slay Narakasurs and save our land from being sold outrightly. This is the time to save Goa,” he said.
