Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) today announced a people’s awareness program and drive – Jan Jagruti Melava in Shiroda to highlight the problems of the residents of the area.

The program will commence with a public gathering on Sunday 2nd December 2018, which will be held at the Shiroda Pride Hall  at Shiroda Market from 3.30 pm onwards.

Senior party leaders including GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Congress Legislative Party leader Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, besides other MLAs are expected to be present on Sunday at Shiroda to kick start the awareness drive.

Speaking at a press conference held at Ponda Adv Diya Shetkar of the Congress said: On behalf of the Congress party, I would like to invite all the residents of Shiroda – which includes the Panchayats of Bethoda, Borim, Shiroda and Panchwadi to join in and participate in the Jan Jagruti Melava.

“The Jan Jagruti Melava is being held to discuss and highlight the civic and other problems faced by the residents of the area for years on end which include scarcity of drinking water, erratic electricity, almost zero internet and mobile connectivity and very bad roads in the internal areas. We are trying to create self-help groups in the area to highlight these problems and find solutions to them,” Shetkar said.

Shetkar said that there are several hundred tribal families living in the Shiroda constituency area including ST tribes who are living in inhuman conditions without water, electricity or basic civic amenities.
