Panaji: Confusion prevails amongst the Congress workers as the party leaders are yet to officially announce cancellation of Party President Mallikarjun Kharge’s pubic meeting at Navelim, while another poster claims that the Statehood Day would be celebrated at a venue in Panaji.
On the occasion of Goa Statehood Day, Indian National Congress President Kharge was supposed to hold his maiden public meeting at Manohar Parrikar Stadium, Navelim.
With only one day left for the scheduled meeting, there is no official communication from the party leaders to the workers or media about it’s cancellation.
Speaking to GNH, GPCC Senior Vice President M K Sheikh had confirmed that the public meeting, which was supposed to be held indoor, was cancelled due to “torrential rains”.
The party sources had confirmed that failure to gather crowd for the public meeting had forced the party to cancel the meeting.
While a senior party leader refuted that gathering crowd was a problem, party’s another poster has vindicated the stand of GNH.
The poster which has pictures of GPCC President Amit Patkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLAs Carlos Alvares and Altone D’Costa and South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes has announced that the Goa Statehood Day function of the party will be held at Z Square, Samrat Theatre, Panaji. This is a much smaller venue compared to Navelim stadium.
The poster also has pictures of leaders including Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Manikrao Thakrey, Anjali Nimbalkar, Girish Chodankar and both the District Presidents on it.
