Panaji: Days after several areas including capital city of Panaji reeled for seven-day-long water scarcity, Congress party on Tuesday demanded that “State government should undertake audit of all the existing water pipelines in the state for their durability.”
The water pipeline had busted near Ponda town on August 15, which was repaired after seven days leaving the talukas of Tiswadi and Ponda without water supply.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, addressing a press conference, demanded that the state public works department should conduct audit of all the water pipeline for their durability to avoid Ponda kind of incident to reoccur.
“It’s only through audit that the state government will know whether there is any eminent threat to the pipeline in near future. If the pipeline is weak, then it should be replaced immediately,” said the former chief minister.
He also demanded that the bigger cities like Panaji should have alternate supply of water, which can be activated when main pipeline fails to provide water due to some incidents.
