The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is conducting Coastal Security Exercise Sagar Kavach 02/24 along the coastlines of Goa and Maharashtra on 16 – 17 October 2024, in coordination with the Indian Navy, Customs, Coastal Police, CISF, MPA, Fisheries Department, and Captain of Ports, State of Goa.
This comprehensive coastal security exercise aims to strengthen and enhance the maritime security of the nation. The multi-agency exercise takes place along the entire coastline, engaging a range of maritime agencies and stakeholders.
The exercise simulates realistic scenarios to test and improve the collective response to maritime security threats, such as infiltration, smuggling, piracy, and natural disasters. Key participating agencies include the Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Police, Customs, Port Authorities, and the Fisheries Department. This joint effort demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding India’s coastline and protecting its maritime interests.
During the exercise, various drills and scenarios will be conducted, including simulated terrorist threats. The goal is to revalidate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and enhance synergy among the agencies involved, aiming for 100% effective patrolling along the coastline. This includes identifying gaps, interdicting infiltrators, and preventing potential landings or attacks on vital areas and vessels.
The exercise also aims to improve awareness and information sharing among stakeholders to create a unified coastal security communication plan.
