Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for a meeting with protesters on Wednesday (today) evening, ahead of their plan to hold a mega protest against the state government’s Unity Mall project.
The Goa government has proposed the Prime Minister’s dream project of Unity Mall at Chimbel village, which has been opposed by the villagers. The protesters, who have been on strike at the site for the last one month, have warned of a mega protest on January 30, demanding the scrapping of the project.
The Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday said that Sawant has convened a meeting with Unity Mall agitators today at 6 pm at the official bungalow in Panaji.
“This meeting is being held in accordance with the prior understanding that, following the site survey, the representatives of the Chimbel agitation and the concerned State Government officials would participate in a review meeting, to be chaired by the CM,” the CMO said.
An expert committee has been conducting a survey at the proposed Unity Mall site following protests by locals, who have opposed the project citing concerns that it may adversely affect a nearby lake.
