Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday announced that Goa has achieved 100 per cent literacy, making it a fully literate state under the ULLAS Bharat Literacy Programme.

Speaking to reporters after attending the 39th Goa Statehood Day function at Kala Academy, Panaji, Sawant said the government is committed to honouring Goa’s rich heritage and celebrating the spirit of Parshuram Bhoomi.

“On the occasion of the 39th Goa Statehood Day, I am proud to declare Goa as a Fully Literate State under the ULLAS Bharat Literacy Programme,” Sawant said.

He attributed this milestone to the sustained collective efforts in strengthening the education sector, including the implementation of new advancements and reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Highlighting the state’s journey, he said, “From liberation in 1961 to Statehood in 1987, Goa’s journey has been one of resilience and pride. We honour Goa’s heritage and celebrate its identity as Parshuram Bhoomi – a land of courage, culture, and progress.”

Sawant also noted that the government has placed significant focus on enhancing the Happiness Index of its citizens, in line with its holistic development goals.
