Panaji: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Thursday criticized Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over his statement on Wednesday ruling out any foul play in the matter related to death of Sonali Phogat.
Sardesai pointed out that within a day of the chief minister ruling out foul play in the matter, the forensic experts from Goa Medical College and Hospital has pointed out to the multiple blunt force injuries on her body.
Talking to reporters in Panaji on Thursday, Sardesai said that the chief minister by jumping to “uninformed and premature conclusions” has not only brought about the suspicion in this sensitive case but also on the prefix that he uses before his name of a doctor.
The GFP leader said that after cabinet meeting, the chief minister had said that Phogat had died of a cardiac arrest.
“I will take you back to similar incident. Siddhi Naik, a poor girl from Aldona (North Goa) died on October 19, 2021. CM had then said no injuries on body of Siddhi was found and death was due to drowning,” he recalled about the incide that had happened last year.
“On January 02, 2022 her death was registered as a murder .. On August 16, 2022, her case has been closed. This is Goa under Dr Pramod Sawant government,” he commented.
Sardesai said that CM likes to give “clean chit” and likes to jump the gun.
“All this is giving Goa a bad name. By making this statement that Sonali Phogat had died of cardiac arrest when multiple blunt force injuries are observed on her body , I can reach the conclusion that no doctor is so brilliant to know the cause of death by seeing news of death on whatsapp,” he said.
The chief minister is a practicing Ayurvedic doctor.
