Margao : “The Citizens Choice Panel for MMC”, a citizens panel floated by Shadow Council for Margao, Citizens for Sonsodo and Goa with Love, have released their manifesto in the form of a General Vision Document, for the commercial capital of Goa. At a media briefing , Shadow Council for Margao Convener Savio Coutinho stated that the Manifesto of their Panel was very detailed and covered all the aspects that the Council could address if their panel was elected. In their list of priorities, the Panel promises the immediate Shifting of the mess created by the Baling operations at the old fish market and the immediate completion of Multi level Parking facility at the same place.
Present at the Manifesto Release program were Roque Mascarenhas(CFS), Orlando Pacheco(GWL), Gerson Gomes, ward 20 candidate Poma Kerkar and others
The Stray Dog / Stray Cattle , Covering all open drains, immediate completion of the Ring Road to streamline traffic movement and ease traffic congestion within the city, Permanent Rehabilitation of displaced Gadda , Providing decent and hygienic public toilets and maintaining the existing facilities have been listed as priorities in the Panels Manifesto.
Some of the key highlights are setting up a Citizens Grievance Cell to promptly address grievances of Citizens. “We shall also devise systems for grant of time bound services and devise mechanisms for Decentralisation of such Municipal services and provide all basic services of MMC at the doorstep of citizens.” read the Manifesto.
As part of the Crime Watch program, the panel assures to Enhance women’s confidence in public spaces by eradication of Eve teasing., CCTV cams installation at strategic locations to identify garbage dumping, aid the authorities in catching traffic violations, prevention of crime and as security for gold/jewellery shops in Margao, Coordinating with Govt. Dept. to ensure proper street lighting/ fixing of street lights before anyone has a chance to complain and a resolve to Tackle the issue of beggars, form part of the assurances of the citizens Panel.
“As an attempt to encourage agriculture we have decided to Identify and set up space for sale of local and Goan agricultural produce. Work towards encouragement of Agriculturists by providing seeds, manure and other agricultural tools thereby aiding in protecting our fields”, Coutinho stated.
