Centre releases grants of Rs 383 crore for development of tourism infra in Goa

Panaji: Goa Tourism department has received central grants of Rs 383.20 crore between March, 2017 to June, 2025 for various projects including development of two coastal circuits and construction of Museaum dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte told the ongoing monsoon session Thursday that Rs 97.65 crores was received for for the development of coastal circuit one covering the beaches of Sinquerim, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator , Morjim Keri in North Goa and also Aguada Fort and Aguada jail in the same district.

The minister said that similarly, Rs 99.35 crore was received for the development of Coastal Circuit two covering Rua de Orem creek to Dona Paula in Panaji and Benaulim in South Goa.

Khaunte has mentioned this in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House responding to a question by BJP MLA Krishna Daji Salkar.
In the reply further, the minister said that Rs 4.67 crore was spend on infrastructure development around Bom Jesus Basilica Old Goa under PRASHAD Scheme of Union Ministry of Tourism.

The Basilica at Old Goa is a home for the relics of St Francis Xavier, a christian missionary.
The central government has also released Rs 4.14 crores under Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0 work for the development of Colva Beach in South Goa and developing “creek experience” at Porvorim in North Goa.

The minister said that Rs 50 crore has been received under Scheme for special Assistance to states for capital investment 2023-24 under part IV ( construction of Unity Malls) at Chimbal village near Panaji.

The centre has also granted Rs 124 crore to Goa under Scheme for special Assistance to State for Capital Investment Scheme- Development of Iconic Tourist Centre to Global Scale Work.

He said that the state government has proposed two major projects including Townsquare at Porvorim and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum Farmagudi, Ponda Goa in North District.
