Panaji: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued show cause notice to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) along with other States and Union Territories for failing to comply with provisions of the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
The show cause is also been issued to Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and Puducherry under section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, in case of violations of provisions of Bio Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
The notice is been issued stating “as why action against the pollution control board shall not be initiated for not complying with the provisions of Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 vis-à-vis, submission of annual report information within stipulated time period”.
CPCB has warned to initiate action if the Board’s failed to provide the required information and reasons for delay against submission of annual report.
Goa has failed to submit annual report information on bio-medical waste management for the year 2017. As per rule, the information has to be submitted to the CPCB by July 31, every year and to Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) by August 31, annually.
