Panaji: Corporation of City of Panaji has resolved to ask back huge tract of land at Banguinim which was handed over to Waste Management Department for the construction of a waste treatment plant.
CCP’s Standing Committee, which met on Wednesday, took the decision to ask back the land, after the department refused their proposal to allot 25,000 square metre of land to dispose dry garbage at Bainguinim.
State government has earmarked 1.79 lakh square metres of land for the project, which is dragging its feet. CCP had asked for 25,000 square metre of land to dump its dry garbage after its site at Campal could not be used due to High Court order.
CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that despite meeting Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the department agreed to give only 4,000 square metres of the land.
Madkaikar said that CCP is unhappy with the decision to allow only 4,000 square metres of the land, and instead want state government to give back entire 1.70 lakh square metres of land.
“We will decide on constructing the waste treatment plant at Banguinim. They have not done anything over the year,” the Mayor said.
Madkaikar said that CCP will inform their decision to the state government on Monday.
