Panaji: In a major move, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) today decided not to renew the trade licences of the off-shore casinos, when they come up for renewal next.
For this year, casinos have already renewed their licences. CCP during its ordinary council meeting held today resolved not to renew the trade licences of the off-shore casinos. “With no trade licence, casinos will not be able to run their business here in Panaji and they will have to shift it,” Mayor Uday Madkaikar, who moved the resolution said.
CCP panel is currently ruled by Panaji BJP MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, who is up in arms to shift the off shore casinos out of River Mandovi. He has already urged government to shift them to Aguada bay, the proposal which is under consideration.
There are at present six off shore casinos in River Mandovi. Government has allowed them to continue their operations in the river till March 2020.
