Carmel College Shines at State-Level Adi Yuva Streetplay Competition in Goa

Panaji: The State-Level Adi Yuva Streetplay Competition was held on 11th July 2025 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The event was organised by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Goa, in association with the Directorate of Tribal Welfare under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, New Delhi, titled Support to TRI. The competition was part of the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

The intercollegiate streetplay competition was inaugurated by Digambar Kamat, MLA of Margao, in the presence of Dipak S. Desai, Director of Tribal Welfare, and Sagar Gaude, Director of TRI.

Addressing the students, Kamat expressed his pleasure at witnessing the enthusiasm with which students performed streetplays. He praised the portrayal of issues focusing on tribal life, calling them impactful and heartfelt.

A total of eight teams from various colleges participated in the state-level Adi Yuva Festival.

Ramesh Tawadkar, MLA of Canacona and Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Vasudeo M. Gaonkar, Chairman of GSSTFDL, and Cheahta Yadav, IAS, presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker applauded the students’ efforts in presenting streetplays on issues relevant to tribal communities. He also appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Tribal Welfare and the Tribal Research Institute for organising the event.

Carmel College secured first place, followed by Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Shiroda, and the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, who took second and third place respectively. Another team from the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce received the consolation prize.

The panel of judges included Sushant Nayak, Deepesh Priolkar, and Devidas Gaonkar.
