Panaji: The pitch darkness ruled the court rooms at District Court building in Panaji today as there was no electricity. The hearings were conducted in the candle light with lawyers struggling to read in the files. Thanks to electricity failure and no inverter for the Court building.
The building located besides Old Secretariat has three District Courts operating from there while lower courts are shifted to plush Spaces building at Patto.
When court proceedings began today, there was pitch darkness. Even all the offices of the Courts were in darkness with few staff trying to read in the files and continue work with the candle light.
In the court rooms too, Judges had one candle and the supporting staff another while court room and lawyers remained in the darkness.
“There was only UPS of the computer which was working. We had to struggle to go through the files. It is sad that the Court buildings don’t have inverts in this century,” said Advocate Amit Palekar, whose case was before the district judge today.
He said that the State government should look into it.
The judges continued the proceeding as wasting a day would amount to giving another date for the cases which are piled up in the court.
We are carrying the picture of one of the office of the court which was in dark so make our reader understand what exactly was the situation. We are refrained from clicking picture inside the court halls as it is not allowed as per the law.
