Calangute police arrest Stanley Coutinho for extortion

Calangute:  In a swift action taken by Calangute police based upon the complaint of a businessman running two restaurants one accused person who is a local resident of Tivaivado, Calangute has been placed under arrest.

The accused person was every month going to various restaurants and collecting money putting them in instant fear of death.

One businessman came  forward on 03/7/2018 and lodged a complaint and subsequently an FIR was immediately registered. The complainant stated that the accused person was extorting money from this 02 restaurants from last 03 months.

Further the owner of the restaurant installed CCTV cameras in the premises of restaurants to find out the person coming in the restaurant during the owners absence.

The footage was provided to Calangute Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi.

After collecting intelligence the accused was identified to be one Stanley Coutinho, age 28 yrs, R/o Tivaivado, Calangute Goa.

Subsequently a team immediately rounded up the accused person at his residence late night on 03/07/2018.

Accused person has been placed under arrest and attached the vehicle of the accused bearing no GA 03 N 8242 and one mobile phone. The extorted money has been successfully recovered. Investigation has  revealed that the accused person was operating alone.

An offence under section 451, 506 (ii)and section 386 IPC has been registered for trespass, threatening with dire consequences and extorting money by threatening to death or hurt.

PI Dalvi has appealed to the businessman in Calangute that any such extortionists approach for money then they should immediately inform police and instant action is assured .

Police are also forwarding a case  under section 107 CrPC to the Sub Divisional Magistrate for further action against the accused as their is every possibility that he may commit such offence in future.
