Panaji: Congress party has questioned state government’s silence on the compensation to be paid to the electricity department employees who fell victim to the accident at Borim.
“ The tragic accident on 6th Aug at Borim (Ponda) as reported, involving the Goa Electricity Dept vehicle transporting poles, wherein 3 of its employees namely Pundalik Jhalmi, Sameer Parab and Sagun Gawas lost their lives while 6 others were seriously injured and admitted in hospital has rattled the conscience of every Goan,” GPCC Media Convener Trajano D’Mello said.
“The Congress party expresses grief and offers its condolences with deep sympathy to the bereaved families. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured 6 persons,” he said.
“The accident once again exposes the badly maintained vehicles of the Electricity dept which transport materials and in the same vehicles illegally carry workers which is the result of this tragic incident. Is this not the careless, negligent and insensitive attitude of the government and the electricity dept towards these workers who generally work with high risk involved?”
“The insensitive, incompassionate and ruthless attitude further stands exposed that though 48 hours have passed since the tragic incident not a single word of immediate monetary compensation has been uttered.”
“The Congress party demands that financial compensation/ assistance immediately be disbursed to the kin of the deceased workers. Similarly, those that are injured also be compensated.”
“Further the government should waste no time in appointing a kin of the deceased in a suitable government permanent position. The appointment should be done within 3 months by issuing directions and overruling all bureaucratic red tape.”
“The CLP leader has rightly demanded a probe to institute an inquiry and to pinpoint the irresponsibility to avoid further tragic incidents.”
“It would be proper for the Power Minister to accept moral responsibility and step down.”
