Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that the party aims to enrol five lakh members in the state, increasing the tally from four lakhs registered during the last membership drive.
Sawant filed his primary membership form on Tuesday along with BJP Goa State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade and Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik at Panaji.
The chief minister said that the party has increased the target set for itself during this membership drive. “Amongst twelve and half lakh voters, the party wants to enrol five lakh people as their member,” he said.
Sawant added that during the last membership drive, there were twelve lakh voters in Goa and the party had enrolled four lakh people as its members.
The chief minister said that the primary membership of the party is a proud moment for any worker. “The members of the party have equal right in BJP office to that of Party State President or the chief minister,” he said.
Sawant said that the BJP has been increasing its presence in South Indian states are its excellent performance in North India. He pointed out that the party has already entered Kerala during the last election, and will soon have its presence in Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The chief minister said that the youth in the age group of 18 to 21 should also enrol as a party members in a big way.
Goa BJP President Sadanand Tanavade said that the first phase of membership drive will end on September 25 while entire drive will be completed by October.
Tanavade said that the elections for various booths, taluka level units, district unit and state will be followed after the membership drive. He said that those who enrol more than ten members can become active members of the party.
