Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party and its supporting MLAs have fielded Joshua De Souza as its candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.
Congress has fielded its lone woman MLA Delialah Lobo against De Souza for the coveted post. The election for the post of Deputy Speaker would be held on Friday (today) during ongoing Legislative Assembly Session.
After filing the nomination for the post of Deputy Speaker, De Souza took on to social media to thank chief minister Pramod Sawant for giving him the opportunity.
“Honoured by the opportunity given by the Hon’ble #ChiefMinister of #Goa Dr Pramod Sawant ji for nominating my name for the post of #DeputySpeaker of #GoaLegislativeAssembly, and further proposed by Shri Premendra Shet, Shri Krishna Daji Salkar, Shri Ganesh Gaonkar, and my colleagues Shri Rohan Khaunte, Shri Nilesh Cabral, Shri Chandrakant Shetye, Shri Subhash Shirodkar. I would also like to thank BJP Goa President Shri Sadanand Tanavade.”
Congress MLA Carlose Alvares Ferreira said that the party has fielded Delialah Lobo for the post of Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.
While admitting that opposition parties do not have strength to win the election for the post of Deputy Speaker, Ferreira said that “anything can happen during voting.”
BJP and its allies have 25 MLAs by their side while Opposition led by Congress have 15 in Goa Legislative Assembly.
