Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced that it will sever ties with any party workers found to be involved in the ongoing cash-for-government-job scam, which is currently under investigation by the Goa Police.
At least six people have been arrested by the Goa Police for allegedly demanding bribes in exchange for government jobs. In a recent development, Shruti Prabhugaonkar, a woman leader of the party, was arrested on Tuesday by Ponda police for allegedly duping multiple individuals under the pretext of providing government jobs.
Sawaikar, a former South Goa MP and General Secretary of the state unit, told reporters that the Pramod Sawant-led government has adopted a transparent approach to recruiting for government jobs.
He said that the State Staff Selection Commission has been established to ensure candidates are selected based on merit.
When asked about the involvement of some BJP workers in the scam, Sawaikar stated that the police have been given a free hand to investigate.
The former MP added that the party has urged the Sawant-led government to conduct a thorough inquiry and reach a logical conclusion regarding the scam. He emphasized that people should come forward and lodge complaints, even if any BJP worker or sympathizer is involved.
“No one will be spared. We will delink ourselves from any BJP workers found to be involved in such a scam,” he said.
