Panaji: BJP Goa President Damu Naik has said that the party has sought clarification from MLA Michael Lobo and former tourism minister Dilip Parulekar over their remarks on corruption in the backdrop of the Arpora fire. He added that action would be initiated against both leaders after receiving their clarifications.
Lobo and Parulekar had alleged large-scale corruption in the beach belt, which had resulted in illegalities in the tourism sector. Their statements came in the backdrop of a fire at a nightclub on Saturday evening that killed 25 people.
“I have heard the statements by both leaders. I have sought clarification from them for making such statements,” Naik said.
Naik was addressing a press conference to announce the alliance of the party with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat election. He said that the party will take action against both leaders after receiving clarification. “The party cannot be taken for granted. We are running a political organisation. Everyone has to stay within limits,” Naik said.
Responding to an allegation by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal that BJP is involved in corruption, he said, “Let Kejriwal tell us why he was thrown out of Delhi. He claimed to provide good governance.” Naik also said that Kejriwal might have come to Goa to check the possibility of an excise scam.
Speaking about the alliance for the ZP elections scheduled on December 20, Naik said that BJP has formed an alliance with MGP and shared three out of 50 seats with them. He added that both parties will contest the election in alliance.
