Panaji: To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, both BJP and the Congress held padyatra. While BJP held Gandhi Sankalp rally in Panaji, Congress march was at Old Goa.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant flagged off Gandhi Sankalp rally in presence of Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate, Mayor Uday Madkaikar, councilors, party workers and school children.
Sawant said that the teachings of non-violence, swadeshi and Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness continue to inspire us.
” Cleanliness has been dream of our Father of Nation but, we have not been able to achieve that till now. Let us all join hands together and work to make a clean Goa,” he said.
On the other hand, Congress padyatra from Bainguinim to Old Goa was led by Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat, who said that we have to imbibe values of Mahatma Gandhi in our personal and public life. He further said that today country is in need of principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
GPCC president Girish Chodankar and AICC secretary Dr Chellakumar were also present.
Chodankar said that government should not just remember Gandhiji only for a day on Gandhi Jayanti day but work on the path of Gandhiji. He said government should follow the principles of truth, Non-violence, tolerance, Peace, freedom.
