Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused Trinamool Congress Party supremo Mamata Banerjee of disrespecting Hindu sentiments during his visit to the famous temple in Goa.
BJP Goa spokesman Siddharth Kunkolienkar said that Banerjee during her visit to Mangueshi Temple on Friday had thrown Holy Water (teerth) on the ground.
In a video footage that was shown on local channel, Banerjee is seen throwing the teerth over her head.
“When she was given holy water (teerth) she disrespected it and threw it on ground. She has disrespected Hindu sentiments,” Kunkolienkar said, talking to reporters.
He said “When we go to temple, we respect the Holy Water.”
Kunkolienkar, a former Panaji MLA, said that TMC had disrespected Shantadurga in the past. “We condemn the incident. We wont allow this kind of culture to take root in Goa,” he said.
Banerjee is on three day visit to the coastal state during which she has been meeting different section of people and also visiting the temples.
