In 1919, the visionary forefathers founded Bal-Sanmitra Samaj, which was then registered as Atmoddhar Sangh, pioneered the literacy campaign by opening a library and initiating primary school ‘Utkarsha Vidyalaya’ in Sankhali.
Fighting against all odds in pre liberation period the institution not only succeeded to survive but flourished as one of the examplary ones in the state.
Post liberation, when the then Government established a fine network of primary schools in the state, Utkarsh Vidyalaya was transformed into Progress High school imparting English medium middle and high school education.
Sanzgiri memorial pre-primary and primary school came into existence then filling up the void and making available facilities from pre-primary to SSC under a single roof. Space constraints have been a stumbling block in both restricting the admissions as well as further additions of higher secondary and graduation facilities.
