Benaulim: Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday extended his support to the ongoing agitation against Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act, while demanding that it be abolished immediately.
Addressing a gathering during the inauguration of an e-library in South Goa’s Benaulim Assembly constituency on Wednesday, Kejriwal said that Section 39A was providing opportunities for corruption to various ministers.
I am told that Section 39A provides huge opportunities for corruption to various ministers and officers in Goa. Because of this, people of Goa are fed up, and there is a demand from the people of Goa that Section 39A should be abolished, Kejriwal said.
He was referring to the ongoing protest against the section led by RGP MLA Viresh Borkar. Borkar is on a hunger strike for the fifth consecutive day, demanding the repeal of this controversial section, which enables the conversion of non-settlement land into settlement.
I appeal to the leadership of Goa that this section should be abolished. Even if they have to call for a Special Assembly Session, they should do it and abolish this particular section, the former Delhi CM said.
I lend my support to this movement, he said.
AAP Goa desk in-charge Atishi, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, and others were present on the occasion.
